Everything Begins with Vision

Everything begins with a vision….an invisible idea.

Take a look around where you are right now.  Everything you see began with a vision, a thought in someone’s mind.  The desk or counter, the chair, your computer, all began with a vision.

Fortunately, I was introduced to the concept of vision over 20 years ago when a mentor suggested I create a “vision story” of my best life.   This story was to include everything I truly desired to have and achieve.   The house I would live in, the car I would drive, the income I would earn, right down to the relationships I would enjoy. The key was to write the story in the present tense as though I was living the dream already.

The visioning process was so enjoyable it seemed that just by creating the story I was taking the very first step toward true freedom.  I was so energized and excited about the future, my friends and family wondered what happened to me.

After writing the story in vivid detail, I recorded it on a tape so I could listen to it over and over.  I played it in my car to and from the job I wanted to leave so badly.  Anyone who rode with me listened to my story and some were inspired to create their own.

In the first month not much happened.  Six months later, I was still listening to my story but living the same life.  I seemed to be a much happier person but happiness was not getting me where I wanted to go.  What was I doing wrong?  How long was this going to take?

My mind started to fill with doubt.  I became almost helpless with disappointment as I started to question everything.  It seemed like I was in a downward spiral, out of control.  I stopped listening to my story and felt stuck.

A few weeks later my mentor came to town for a large event.   I heard story after story about how people had taken his advice, just as I did, but they were having great success.  How could that be?

At the lunch break I cornered one of the participants who shared their success story and expressed my frustration.   In no more than five minutes she changed my life forever!

She explained that I left out two very important fundamental pieces to the success formula….action and expectation.  Action, meaning I had to move my feet in the direction of my vision everyday doing the activities that lead to achievement.  Expectation simply meant to be totally open to receive all that I desire.

I started listening to my vision story with even more gusto then before.  I felt a consciousness about doing the work and I moved my feet as fast as I could.    Most importantly, I was truly ready to receive all the good coming my way.

Because I became open to all opportunities, I discovered my dream home in Dana Point on the coast of Southern California where I’ve lived for years.  I still drive the car I envisioned in my original vision story and my income has increased ten times over.   Most importantly, it’s the positive relationships I’ve experienced and the freedom thats made the journey so enjoyable.

Everything begins with a vision, an invisible idea or thought in someone’s mind.   But vision without action is only a dream and without expectation is only hope.  I have a new “vision story” recording now and the future is brighter than ever.

Dream big!
